Oilers Pivot For Rest of Trade Deadline

There is one primary aim for the Edmonton Oilers leading up to the final trade deadline.

Edmonton Oilers have the second fewest goals scored against them all season.

EDMONTON -- Yesterday felt like the trade deadline. Except that there is another day and a half left before the actual trade deadline.

It was a busy day across the NHL as the following players were traded: Vladimir Tarasenko, Noah Hanifin, Bowen Byram, Sean Walker, Alex Wennberg and Casey Mittlestadt.

The Edmonton Oilers left their mark on the deadline with the acquisition of Adam Henrique and Sam Carrick. The deal included the Tampa Bay Lightning to retain more salary, thus allowing both players to fit under the Oilers available cap space.

It's a great sign that Ken Holland was able to add both players without giving up a roster player. There are still enough assets available to Holland and the Oilers to make another significant trade.

Certainly that must be what they are thinking - but Holland appears to have his bar set fairly low. Holland told press yesterday (that are traveling with the team) that, "I'm going to continue to work the phones tonight, tomorrow and through Friday. I'm going to talk to teams about another defenseman, a veteran defenseman."

For those curious - these are some of the defenseman left on Daily Faceoff's trade board: Jakob Chychrun, Alexandre Carrier, Tyson Barrie, Matt Dumba, Jon Merrill and Tony DeAngelo.
