Connor McDavid had the perfect response to Mackenzie Weegar during an Edmonton Oilers vs Calgary Flames game.

EDMONTON -- The Battle of Alberta runs deep and wide.

For as long as the rivalry has been around there has been bad blood between the Edmonton Oilers and the Calgary Flames. Recently that came to a head when the two teams played each other in the second round of the playoffs two off seasons ago.

The Oilers defeated the Flames in five games to move on to the Western Conference Final. Since then, the rivalry appears to have quieted - at least slightly.

A clip surfaced today of Mackenzie Weegar on the Missin Curfew podcast. The episode was published May 8th, 2023 - but Weegar shared an interesting exchange between him and Connor McDavid.

In one of the games between the Flames and Oilers last season, Weegar hit McDavid. From the video clip you can tell that Weegar's knee collides with McDavid's knee first. Weegar recounts the event from his perspective, "McDavid came into our building - some fans thought it was a knee but I gave him a good hit."

McDavid came back around to talk to Weegar about the hit, "he [McDavid] came up to me and goes 'you don't think that was a knee?' I said 'no, they didn't call it'."

Weegar then told McDavid, "you can't be making those moves." McDavid delivered the perfect response.

"I'm getting paid 12.5 [million] to make those moves."

This is yet another instance where McDavid has displayed a certain personality, swagger, confidence (or whatever you want to call it) that has come out in spades this season.

There is one more Battle of Alberta this season - let's see if it will feature a memorable moment like this.
