Lundell's list of favorite hockey rinks have a very at-home feel
We’re long past due for the latest installment of THN Florida’s Five Favorites series.
To date, Florida Panthers players Aaron Ekblad, Evan Rodrigues and Nick Cousins have been kind enough to divulge some of their favorite things for our fun run of stories.
For those who are wondering what the Five Favorites series is, here’s a quick reminder:
With the idea in mind of getting to know the Florida Panthers a little more off the ice, we’re going around the locker room and asking different Panthers players a list of questions about their favorite things.
This time we’re heading from third year center Anton Lundell.
The young Finn is an ascending two-way forward who plays multiple roles for Florida. He’s also got a sense of humor that sneaks up on you.
Here is what the guy they call Lundy had to say:
Favorite arena to play in: I have a lot. One special place is back home in Helsinki, IFK's home arena. It's called Helsingin jäähalli (which translates to Helsinki Ice Palace). That's where I grew up, that's where my favorite team played, where my dad played when I was growing up. That arena is special to me, I grew up in the locker room, in the stands. I was able to play there before I came over (to North America). It's been like a second home pretty much my whole life, to be honest. Here, playing at home in Florida is special and New York, Madison Square Garden is a favorite. It's got a lot of history.
Favorite hockey movie: The one with the Hanson Brothers. Slapshot. I think that's pretty funny. They do stupid stuff and it's just funny. Nobody would do that anymore. It's a cool story of three guys working hard and doing their best.
Favorite player growing up: Pavel Datsyuk. I loved the way he played. He was so creative, he did stuff you didn't see very often, and he was just so smart. He was always a step or two in front of the other guys, and that's something I've been trying to become as well, trying to be a step in front of the other guys.
Favorite piece of gear: I just remember maybe for Christmas, you'd get like a new hockey stick and then you went to the outdoor rinks and just used it everyday. Small things like that give you motivation, you get a new stick and you want to use it as much as you can, or new gear and the next day you go to practice and you're so excited when you have something new, so maybe more that kind of stuff.
Favorite non-hockey hobby: In Florida, there is a lot to do, but I have to say on a day off, going to the beach is pretty cool, or swimming in the pool. I like fishing, but it's more of a summer thing.
Thank you to Anton Lundell for indulging us and happily answering questions about his favorite things.
We’ve got more coming in the Five Favorites series, so keep an eye out!
