ST. PAUL, Minn. — In a game between the Minnesota Wild (36-16-10) and the Tampa Bay Lightning (38-17-4) on national television (TNT), forward Marcus Johansson got injured.
It came in the third period when he was blindsided by Lightning defenseman Darren Raddysh.
Johansson, 35, has 13 goals, 26 assists and 39 points in 57 games this season for the Wild.
After the hit, Johansson immediately hit the ice and was on the ice for a while before he got help off. He went down the tunnel to the dressing room and did not return.
Raddysh was given an interference penalty and after review they said it was only a 2-minute penalty and not a major.
Wild head coach John Hynes said after the game that he believes Johansson is OK. He was in the locker room and they were able to talk to him.
"You don't like to see that hit happen. It was a minor penalty. It wasn't an elbow or anything like that. It's just unfortunate because Jojo wasn't looking so he caught him with a blindshot," Hynes said. "Hopefully he's OK. I think he looks pretty good right now. You always have to wait usually 24 hours to see. The fact that he was in the room after the game and we talked to him hopefully he continues to progress and he doesn't miss any time."
