Predators Make Low-Risk Trade & Acquire Beauvillier

The Nashville Predators have been fairly quiet ahead of the trade deadline this season. That is until they just made a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks to acquire Anthony Beauvillier in exchange for a 2024 fifth-round pick.

This trade for the Predators brings in a bit of scoring they lacked up front and it only cost them a mid-round draft pick. This year, the Predators still have a first-round pick, three second-round picks, two third-round picks, three fourth-round picks, and a sixth-round pick, so they had more than enough draft capital to make a small move like this.

While the Predators could just fit Beauvillier in on the third or fourth line and hope he contributes enough in that role, this does open up the possibility of Yakov Trenin still being moved for a higher draft pick than a fifth-rounder this year. Pierre LeBrun reported earlier that Trenin is generating interest. He is a UFA at the end of the season and would garner a better return than the Predators paid for Beauvillier.

In the right role, Beauvillier has a higher offensive ceiling than Trenin and the Predators need scoring the most. Beauvillier has hit the 34-point mark four times in his career and reached 15 goals five times. Trenin's career high in points in 24 and has reached 10 goals three times. The Predators have the cap space to bring in Beauvillier at full price and hope he can be rejuvenated in Nashville.
