Following the New Jersey Devils' early post-season exit to the Carolina Hurricanes, general manager Tom Fitzgerald confirmed that changes to the club's roster are on the way. With this, let's discuss three players who likely have played their last games with the Devils.
It seems very likely that the Devils will move on from Tatar this off-season. After reuniting with the Devils, the 34-year-old winger struggled this season, posting seven goals, 17 points, and a minus-7 rating. With this, it would not be surprising in the slightest if the Devils opted to move on from the veteran.
If the Devils decide to part ways with Tatar, there could be a team out there willing to give him a professional tryout. However, with how this season went, it seems likely he will not be back with the Devils.
Sprong is another player who the Devils will likely part ways with this off-season. Acquired at the deadline from the Seattle Kraken, Sprong posted just two assists in 11 games with the Devils. He was also scratched often, so it would be understandable if he is not a part of the Devils' future plans.
In 30 games this season split between the Vancouver Canucks, Kraken, and Devils, Sprong had two goals and seven points. This is after he had 18 goals and 43 points in 76 games with the Detroit Red Wings during the 2023-24 season.
Dumoulin was a solid deadline addition for the Devils, but even with this being the case, it might be hard for them to keep him around. The Devils are entering the summer with limited cap space and have pending restricted free agent Luke Hughes to re-sign. Furthermore, their defense is crowded when fully healthy, as they have Hughes, Brenden Dillon, Jonas Siegenthaler, Dougie Hamilton, Brett Pesce, Simon Nemec, and Seamus Casey as options when fully healthy.
Dumoulin had one goal and six points in 19 games with the Devils after being acquired from the Anaheim Ducks.
