Former New Jersey Devils forward Scott Gomez has landed an exciting new job.

The Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League have announced that they have hired Gomez to be their next head coach. In addition, former Devils defenseman Mike Mottau has been named an assistant coach for the Steel.

Gomez, 45, was most recently the head coach and general manager of the Surrey Eagles of the BCHL. The Eagles announced on May 26 that Gomez's time in those roles was over, and he has now landed this exciting new job with the Steel.

Gomez has certainly earned this new head coaching job with the Steel, as he has been continuing to build on his resume. Besides his time with Surrey, Gomez was also an assistant coach for the New York Islanders for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons.

Gomez was selected by the Devils with the 27th overall pick of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. In eight seasons as a Devil over two stints, he recorded 123 goals, 361 assists, 484 points, and a plus-49 rating. He also won the Calder Memorial Trophy (2000) and two Stanley Cups (2000 & 2003) during his time with the Devils.
