The New Jersey Devils suffered their third straight loss on March 25, falling to the Vancouver Canucks in the shootout by a 4-3 final score. With this, the Devils have now lost four out of their last five contests.
While the Devils are hitting a rough patch, forward Erik Haula is heating up significantly. The 34-year-old scored against the Canucks and extended his goal streak to three games in the process. In addition, the 2009 seventh-round pick now has four goals and six points over his last seven contests.
Seeing Haula starting to regain his offensive touch is undoubtedly good news for the Devils. Before his ongoing hot streak, the veteran forward went 28 consecutive games without a point. Clearly, he has broken the ice, and it has come at a good time, with the playoffs almost here.
When playing at his best, Haula is capable of providing solid secondary offensive production, and his previous years with New Jersey show that. During his first season with the Devils in 2022-23, he had 14 goals and 41 points in 80 games. He then followed that up with 16 goals and 35 points in 76 contests last season.
Haula and the Devils will now look to get back in the win column against the Chicago Blackhawks on March 26. It will be intriguing to see if the veteran forward can keep his hot streak going from here.
