Philadelphia Flyers GM Danny Briere met with media members this afternoon and said there is no plan for newly acquired centerman Ryan Johansen to play for the team despite being signed through next season.
He also stated that despite clearing waivers, he's asked Johansen not to report to the AHL immediately while he looks for a possible trade partner.
Charlie O'Connor of PHLY Sports followed up with Briere on why Johansen has no future with the Flyers.
"We have a different vision at this point," Briere said.
Johansen is signed through next season and has a $4 million cap hit. He has no trade clauses, and the Colorado Avalanche has already retained 50% of his salary. Given that Johansen isn't making the $8 million AAV his contract has, the Avalanche's retainment increases Briere's chances of finding a trade partner.
