Philadelphia Flyers CEO Dan Hilferty said he would pay John Tortorella's fine should he get one for last night's ejection.
Last night, against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Tortorella had one of his all-time best tirades at a referee. Down 4-0 in the first period, he refused to leave the bench once Wes McCauley tossed him.
Al Morganti of NBC Sports Philly said he spoke to Hilferty about what happened last night, and the answer shows the new culture that is being built around the Flyers organization.
"I'm really proud of Torts for standing up for his/our team," Hilferty said. "This new era of Orange is about having each other's backs. Last night, Torts had our collective backs. I respect any action the league might feel a need to take, but if it includes a fine, I am paying it."
The rest of the coaching staff and players somehow gained more respect for the legendary head coach.
"Well, I think he was just trying to make a point that we felt like we might not been getting our fair shake," Flyers associate coach Brad Shaw said postgame. "But you know, it's an emotional game at times, and we all get elevated blood pressure."
Tortorella will likely find out his fate of a fine sometime later today.
