The Philadelphia Flyers and GM Danny Briere are still waiting for the NHL to provide guidance on how to handle Carter Hart's contract situation.
During his pre-draft media availability, Briere told reporters that the league still hasn't informed them of what should happen to the players involved in the 2018 Hockey Canada Scandal.
"We haven't received any guidance. That was said publicly. We haven't been told what to do yet," Briere explained. "We're still waiting for guidance from them, as far as what we can do, what it is, and how it works out."
Specifically for the Flyers, Hart is a pending restricted free agent. In order to retain his signing rights, he would need to be offered a qualifying offer of $4,479,000. Briere still said that part of the questions for the NHL surrounds how signing rights will work.
"That's all part of it. What we're allowed to do, and how will it work for rights in the future," Briere said. "There's a lot of questions surrounding the situation that we're hoping to have a little bit more direction on."
Take away the scandal, and the Flyers have a No. 1 goalie, which might've been good to have down the stretch last season, but life off the ice is more important than the game of hockey. Trial dates have yet to be determined, but hearings are scheduled.
June 30th is the last day the Flyers can qualify Hart. The NHL will likely give the teams with players involved in the scandal more guidance before then.
