Philadelphia Flyers captain Sean Couturier played for the first time since being a healthy scratch for two games.
He scored no points and played 13:09 on a line with Noah Cates and Olle Lycksell.
"Just happy to be back and contribute in any way I can," Couturier said postgame. "I really just tried to come back to basics and play a little more simple hockey, just let the game come to me. I thought our line did a pretty good job creating some forechecks and momentum and a couple of offensive chances. I thought overall the whole team, great effort."
Earlier in the week, the captain said he wasn't entirely sure why he was being scratched.
"It's behind me now. I don't want to really talk about it. I just want to help the team in any way I can," he said about if he had a better understanding.
Flyers head coach John Tortorella wasn't asked about Couturier postgame but did talk about that line.
"They played well," Tortorella said. "The thing I take out of the game is that it is two games in a row now that our third period has been our strongest period. I thought we took over the game in Carolina. I know we gave up a couple of goals in this period, but territorial and the chances, it was a really good third period by the whole group."
The Flyers walk away with two critical points in the standings with a 3-2 win over the NHL's best team.
