TSN's Darren Dreger said he believes that Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Sean Walker will be the next defenseman to be traded before the deadline.

This comes as a change of pace, as last night, Dreger tweeted that there are contract talks for an extension with the Flyers. 

"You do have to continue to have trade conversations and negotiations," Dreger said on Leafs Morning Take today. "There will be a breaking point in the extension negotiations and you have to balance that with what the trade market is looking like, and there is a buzz around Sean Walker this morning."

Walker has been terrific for the Flyers all season long. He has six goals and 16 assists and has been one of the best all-around defensemen in the league. 

At 29-years-old and a pending UFA, Walker's $2.65 million AAV is set to go up. The Flyers likely need more young assets, whether prospects or picks and could use a little more for the future without leveraging the main core. 

Walker could bring the most value to GM Danny Briere, and a team like the Edmonton Oilers could be a team to target Walker. Reports this morning suggest that they are willing to part with their first-round pick for the 2024 NHL Draft. 

A Sean Walker extension would be good for the Flyers, but adding another first-round pick could be as beneficial and help the team's long-term success.
