Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports - Tortorella Says Flyers 'Not Looking To Trade' Defenseman

Philadelphia Flyers head coach John Tortorella spoke candidly about how the team isn't actively shopping defenseman Nick Seeler.

After tonight's 4-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators, Tortorella shed some light on what the team thinks regarding Seeler and the trade deadline.

"We said that from the get-go, we're not looking to trade Seels," Tortorella said about if he wanted Seeler not to get traded. "He's a huge part of the competitiveness of the room that brings that room together."

Seeler is a 30-year-old, left-shot defenseman who has become a hot commodity for other teams around the trade deadline.

In 62 games this season, he has 12 points but is a +15. In his career, Seeler is +11. The Flyers have struggled in recent seasons, but his worst season with the team was his first in the 2021-22 season, where he finished as a -3. His time on ice has also increased each year he's been on the team. In 21-22, he averaged 13:04 TOI. This season, he is averaging 16:58, which is a career-high.

The high praise continued from his legendary head coach.

"He's one of the true competitors that I've ever coached as far as he handles himself," Tortorella said.

Along with Sean Walker, there is no telling whether or not GM Danny Briere will trade either defenseman. Tortorella has been instrumental to the Flyers' success this season, and if they want to stay in a playoff spot, opting to keep Seeler looks like the right decision.
