It's more than likely Sidney Crosby will be the only Pittsburgh Penguins skater at the All-Star Game.
PITTSBURGH – Sidney Crosby has already been chosen the represent the Pittsburgh Penguins at the 2024 NHL All-Star Game, but it seems like he’ll be the lone representative. With 12 spots remaining open to be selected via fan vote, no new Penguins are among the top vote getters.
According to the NHL, no Penguins have received enough votes to crack the top 15 skaters. Toronto Maple Leafs’ forward William Nyladner leads the way with 744,990 votes and counting while Edmonton Oilers’ defenseman Evan Bouchard rounds out the top 15 with 174,414 votes.
Among goalies, Tristan Jarry and Alex Nedeljkovic were unlikely to get an All-Star nod anyway, but continue to sit well outside the top of the list. Vancouver Canucks goalie Thatcher Demko has stood out with 788,278 votes.
It wasn’t likely that any of Crosby’s teammates would join him in Toronto for All-Star Weekend, but he isn’t even the most productive player on his team. Jake Guentzel is out-scoring Crosby with 44 total points in 39 games. Crosby has 41 over 39 games but is well deserving of the invite regardless.
Guentzel would have been the most likely option to join Crosby thanks to his numbers, but Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin are having respectable seasons in their own right, as well. Erik Karlsson hasn’t been his usual self but is still a big name to follow in the NHL.
There isn’t much time left for the fans to decide the next 12 All-Stars, but the Penguins are still giving a push for Guentzel.
This is Crosby’s 10th All-Star Game selection of his career, second most among any Penguins player in franchise history. Crosby lags behind only Mario Lemieux who was invited to 13.
