Neville E. Guard-USA TODAY Sports - Pregame Preview #2: Sharks Must Slow Down Avalanche

The San Jose Sharks (0-1-0) take on the Colorado Avalanche (1-0-0) in their second game of the season.

MacKenzie Blackwood will make his San Jose Sharks debut, head coach David Quinn confirmed yesterday. Blackwood was acquired via trade and sign with the New Jersey Devils.

    Sharks projected lines:

    Zadina-Hertl-Duclair
    Eklund-Bordeleau-Hoffman
    Barabanov-Peterson-Kunin
    Zetterlund-Sturm-Smith

    Ferraro-Burroughs
    Knyzhov-Rutta
    Benning-Vlasic

    Blackwood

Quinn confirmed that tonight's scratches are Ty Emberson, Kevin Labanc, and Henry Thrun.

"I thought Henry [Thrun] struggled a little bit, and [Knyzhov's] been on the rise and deserves an opportunity to play."

The Avalanche play with a lot of speed. Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, and more are all tremendous skaters. For the Sharks to get their first win tonight, they will need to shut down the opposition's speed game.

"We always talk about puck management against a team like this," Quinn said. "It's all about territory. Staying in the O-zone and keeping them out of your own zone. Puck possession and management are really going to dictate the level of success, in particular against the Avalanche."

Anthony Duclair talked about what the team needs to do to slow down Colorado.

"Their top six has got a lot of speed, so we're gonna have to try to manage that in a neutral zone," Duclair explained. "Try to pick up speed early and try to stop them before they enter the red line."

Puck drop is at 7 p.m. and can be viewed on NBC Sports California or the Sharks Audio Network.
