Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports - BREAKING: SHARKS TO RETIRE JOE THORNTON'S NUMBER

The San Jose Sharks have announced that they will retire Joe Thornton's No. 19 during the 2024-25 season.

Thornton announced his official retirement earlier this season in the most Jumbo Joe way: a shirtless video.

Thronton will join his good friend and fellow Sharks legend Patrick Marleau as the only two players to have their jersey numbers retired by the San Jose Sharks organization.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to play in the National Hockey League for 24 seasons," Thornton said. "But when I came to San Jose, it felt like I was truly home. I fell in love with the area and the people, and I had the best years of my career wearing the Sharks crest. I want to thank Hasso Plattner, the Sharks organization, my teammates, our fans and especially my family for all their support over my career. I am humbled by this recognition, which is a reflection of all of those great teams we had in San Jose during my time there."

Thronton also played for the Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Florida Panthers in his career.

Per the Sharks, his stats rank at the top of just about every category as a member of the San Jose franchise.

    "As a San Jose Shark, his name is at or near the top of nearly every franchise regular-season statistical category: 1,055 points (2nd), 804 assists (1st), 251 goals (4th), 1,104 games played (3rd), +161 (1st), 631 penalty minutes (4th), 402 powerplay points (1st), 87 powerplay goals (3rd), and 40 game-winning goals (4th)."

Congratulations to Joe Thornton on this well-deserved honor.
