Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports - BREAKING: Sharks Trade Duclair To Lightning

The San Jose Sharks have traded Anthony Duclair to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

San Jose also sent the Lightning a 2025 seventh-round pick. In return, San Jose acquired a 2024 third-round selection and defenseman Jack Thompson from the Lightning.

Duclair would be scratched for trade-related reasons tonight, but the trade was completed before puck drop.

The Lightning were also reportedly interested in Alexander Barabanov.

Thompson is a 21-year-old defenseman who currently plays in the AHL. In 46 games this season for the Syracuse Crunch, he has recorded 32 points (five goals, 27 assists). At the time of the trade, Thompson ranked second on Syracuse in points and assists, which led team defensemen. He made his NHL debut with Tampa on January 6th of this season. Over two AHL seasons, he has appeared in 118 games, recording 56 points (13 goals, 43 assists).

Thompson would be an excellent addition to the San Jose Barracuda if he were sent there, but he could also get a look in the NHL, as the Sharks lack a solid offensive defenseman.
