Dean Tait - Hockey Shots - Sharks Winger Expecting To Get Traded; Feels Agent Can Help Him Navigate The Situation

San Jose Sharks winger Anthony Duclair explained why he hired an agent after practice today.

"I can't do those calls myself. The situation I'm in, I think it was obviously pretty apparent that I was going to be moving, so I needed somebody to represent me and make those calls on my behalf," Duclair said. "Can't be making that in the middle of the season, so I decided to go that route and then go from there."

As far as an extension goes, Duclair said it could be visited during the summer.

"I think it's probably a conversation maybe in the summertime, but as far as right now, we stand where we stand," Duclair said.

Head coach David Quinn revealed that Duclair hired his agent a couple of months ago.

"He's had an agent for a couple of months now, which is a good move for him," Quinn said. You get someone speaking on your behalf. You get someone making phone calls for you. He's an unrestricted free agent, and I don't want him to go anywhere, but I certainly understand our organization's situation and his probable desire to get into a situation to get the chance to win again."

Duclair said that he hasn't heard of any trades for him on the horizon, which is why he hired an agent.

"I mean, I don't know what's going to happen. It's been pretty quiet," He said. "I needed somebody to speak on my behalf in the middle of the season, so I decided to go that route."

Duclair also said that this is his first time in a situation like this. He stated he's felt like he won't get moved or had an agent in the past.

"This is the first situation [where I knew a trade] was going to happen," Duclair said. "The other times I either had an agent for I was really confident that was gonna stay, and that was the case."

David Quinn felt that there had been a correlation between hiring an agent and Duclair's play.

"I think it gives him more information league-wide than he probably had without an agent," Quinn said. "That's what an agent can do for you. He can talk to people and give feedback and put things in perspective and give you the lay of the land. So I'm sure that has helped."

Duclair arguably had his best performance as a member of the San Jose Sharks last night with two goals and two assists.

The trade deadline is Friday at noon pacific, and based on everything that is being said about Duclair, it looks like he will be on the move.
