Former San Jose Sharks defenseman Nikita Okhotiuk's NHL career is over for the time being, as the Calgary Flames d-man is headed to the KHL.
Okhotiuk signed a two-year contract with CSKA despite the international ban handed out by the IIHF.
The 23-year-old was traded from the New Jersey Devils as part of the deal that sent Timo Meier the other way in 2023. Unfortunately for Okhotiuk, injuries and lack of quality play pushed him out of the Sharks lineup and eventually the Flames lineup.
In 43 games with San Jose, Okhotiuk had one goal and seven assists. Following the trade deadline, he played nine games for Calgary and had one assist. From March 9th on, the Flames had 20 games.
The former second-round pick is a Russian native but decided to come to North America in 2017 and play in the OHL with the Ottawa 67s. He returns home to play for one of the top teams in the KHL, CSKA.
