Former San Jose Sharks goalie Devin Cooley made his Calgary Flames preseason debut last night.

In classic Cooley fashion, the netminder made a highlight reel save and gave reporters a hilarious postgame quote. The Flames beat the Edmonton Oilers 6-3, and Cooley made 44 saves on 47 shots.

Cooley's story made headlines last season. A Los Gatos native, Cooley played for the Jr. Sharks youth hockey program growing up. He was acquired from the Buffalo Sabres at the trade deadline and made six starts for the Sharks.

After last night's game, Cooley gave a quote about proving doubters wrong, but in hilarious fashion.

During his time with the Sharks last season, Cooley gave entertaining interviews no matter the situation. Following a 49-save performance against the Seattle Kraken last season, Cooley told reporters about his in-game mentality very interestingly.

"I check it every once in a while, but yeah, again, I just try to stay in the present moment. I just keep repeating myself like there are no thoughts. There is no future. There are thoughts. There is no future. I just said that over and over and over again. So that way, I could just take it one save at a time," Cooley explained. "Then I also say nothing matters. Nobody cares. Nothing matters. Nobody cares. So, it keeps me grounded. Like if I make a big save or I look up, I'm like, Wow, a goal on 40 shots or whatever. I'm like, I feel good. It's just like, nobody cares, you know? Nothing's really gonna matter, we're all gonna die, you know? It sounds a little grim, but it helps keep me grounded."

Though it looks pretty negative thinking, Cooley's spin on it is that the only thing that matters is what is in front of him.

Cooley signed a two-year deal with the Flames and could start the season as the No. 3 netminder behind Dan Vladar and Gilroy, Calif. native Dustin Wolf.
