This morning, the San Jose Sharks 2020 first-round pick was cut from the Nashville Predators training camp.
Ozzy Wiesblatt was the final pick of the first round in 2020. San Jose took the winger and had high hopes for him as a prospect. Wiesblatt could never find the offense in his time with the Sharks organization, and the beginning of the end started when San Jose loaned him to the Milwaukee Admirals last season.
Wiesblatt was officially traded to the Predators in June in exchange for Egor Afanasyev. Afanasyev did not sign a contract with the Sharks and is currently playing in Russia.
Wiesblatt has yet to make his NHL debut, and after a headline-topping offseason by signing Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault, the Predators have a loaded forward core. It might be another season in the AHL for Wiesblatt before he gets a look at the NHL level.
Wiesblatt had nine points in 15 playoff games for the Admirals last season.
