Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports - Instant Analysis: Sharks Let David Quinn Go As Head Coach

The San Jose Sharks have fired David Quinn as the team's head coach.

Quinn was dealt a bad hand during his two seasons with the Sharks. He was the head coach for 164 games and had a record of 41-98-25. This season, he dealt with many injuries, including his captain, Logan Couture.

Nobody expected the Sharks to be sniffing around the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but GM Mike Grier has come out and said that he didn't expect the team to have 19 wins this season.

"As I told the group, I don't think the season was good enough. It was probably a little bit, not just post-deadline, but overall, it was not what I expected," Grier said during his exit interview. "I give the group credit. They came in here, and they were positive. They got along. The coaches deserve credit for that, too. Keeping the guys on track, staying positive, and motivating them. You've seen situations and not just hockey but all sports where teams in this situation where it goes off the rails and things get bad, and you hear guys bicker, and you're not getting along, but the guys came here and worked every day."

Questions were asked about what the team needed to do to be harder to play against. Quinn and the players didn't hide from the Sharks reality of the rebuild.

Nico Sturm was honest in his assessment of the team.

Quinn becomes the 16th head coach fired since the end of the 22-23 season.

By no means was this season solely on David Quinn's shoulders, but there are questions to be asked about his message resonating with the team based on what was being said during some players' exit interviews.
