Dean Tait - Hockey Shots - Quinn, Hertl, & Sturm Give Their Reactions To Sharks 10-1 Loss to Canucks

Quinn Hughes' five-point night led the Vancouver Canucks to an easy 10-1 win over the San Jose Sharks.

David Quinn, Tomas Hertl, and Nico Sturm talked candidly about what went wrong.

    David Quinn Quotes:

"The penalty put us off on the wrong foot tonight. To get a four-minute penalty to start the game [and they] score two powerplay goals, with where we're at mentally, you could feel it on the bench; it deflated us. We never recovered, and just really, really disappointing."

"When you're the head coach, and you're in a situation we're in, you sit there, and you look in the mirror. You try to figure out what your role is. All coaches are harder on themselves than anybody. Every day, we sit and analyze what we can do a little bit differently what we can do better. Can we deliver the message a little bit different? At the end of the day, this game is hard. Winning is hard. There's a cost to winning, and you've got to be willing to pay it as an individual."

"Well, everybody's got to look in the mirror and decide why they are here. We're in a situation as an organization where people have certainly touched on the fact that we're in a rebuild and that we've traded some high-end players, and we're in the situation we're in."

"We're not a team yet. That was part of the problem tonight. It felt like we didn't play like a team. We're letting our results get in the way of playing like a team. That's going to change."

    Tomas Hertl Quotes:

"It's tough. I don't have any words to say. It's an embarrassing loss tonight."

"We didn't push back. We let the goalies just suffer. I feel sorry for them because we didn't help them at all."

"There's nothing we can do about what happened [in the] last ten games. It's tough to forget it, but you know we have to deal [with it] tonight."

Nobody should sleep for our team for sure tonight. Nobody gets good sleep after that. We have to practice and be ready because we still got 72 games left, and we have to just play more like a team."

"Everybody, especially starting with me, needs to look in the mirror tonight. This just can't happen."

    Nico Sturm Quotes:

"I've never been in a situation like this. I don't think any of us have to be honest with you. I only know that I'm going to show up to practice tomorrow and work hard."

"It's not about the coaches. When you lose 10-1, the coaches aren't out there and playing. It's far too easy to play against us right now. That's certainly not the coaches' fault."

"Really good practices. I mean, we felt really, really strongly, especially that the first one on Tuesday [was] really, really competitive. Guys were battling hard. The mood was really good; guys were competing. I can tell you, it's not for lack of trying. Guys show up every day, and they put in the work."
