Sharks Can Help Two Teams Clinch Playoff Berths Today

The San Jose Sharks are in a position to play spoiler and help clinch playoff berths for the Colorado Avalanche and Vancouver Canucks. 

For the Canucks to clinch a playoff berth, the Sharks need to end their nine-game skid with a regulation win over the St. Louis Blues. The Sharks have beaten the Blues this season, which bodes well for confidence. 

It was arguably the Sharks' best game of the season at the time. 

The Avalanche have a little more flexibility regarding what they need from the Sharks. If the Avs win against the Nashville Predators, they don't need the help from San Jose.

But if the Avs win in a shootout, the Sharks need to push their game into overtime. The Blues could still win in this scenario. 

The other two ways involve the Sharks winning in any fashion, unlike the Cancuks, who need a regulation win. 

The Sharks are seven points behind the Chicago Blackhawks in the standings. San Jose has played one less game and has three fewer regulation wins than Chicago. While a Sharks win will help some in the playoffs, it would prevent the Sharks from moving closer to clinching the best odds for the No. 1 pick in the 2024 Draft.
