Using Tankathon NHL's Draft Lottery simulator, the San Jose Sharks won the lottery just twice out of ten simulations.
Simulation #8 provides arguably the best possible outcome for the Sharks.

The Columbus Blue Jackets jump from No. 4 to No. 1 as they win this first simulation. Last season, the Sharks and Blue Jackets finished around the Chicago Blackhawks in the standings.
The Jackets ended up sliding back to No. 3 and selecting Adam Fantilli.

In simulation No. 2, the Seattle Kraken wins the draft lottery, sliding up from No. 7. After making the playoffs for the first time in franchise history last season, the Kraken would select first overall before the Sharks in NHL history.
Montreal also jumps five spots to select No. 2, adding to its young core, which seems to be blossoming nicely.

In simulation #3, Columbus continues to have luck but wins the lottery for the second overall pick. The Anaheim Ducks would then get a one-two combo of Leo Carlsson and Macklin Celebrini.

Something about the Blue Jackets: they win the lottery for pick No. 2 again. The Arizona Coyotes moved from No. 5 to select first overall. Hockey in the desert would definitely gain popularity if this happened.

IT FINALLY HAPPENED. After five simulations, the San Jose Sharks finally won their first draft lottery. The combination of Will Smith and Macklin Celebrini could be incredibly dangerous for the rest of the NHL.
Once again, the Blue Jackets move up and pick second overall.

Tankathon must have something with the Blue Jackets. This result is similar to the first simulation, except the Buffalo Sabres move from No. 10 to No. 2.

Simulation No. 7 might be the worst outcome for the Sharks. Not only do they miss out on Celebrini, but the Chicago Blackhawks get back-to-back No. 1 picks, and the division-rival Anaheim Ducks jump the Sharks.

This could be the most insane scenario. The Sharks win the lottery and select Celebrini. The Pittsburgh Penguins finished second with a pick traded to the Sharks in the Erik Karlsson deal, but it is top-10 protected. If the Penguins are in the top ten of the 2024 NHL Draft, they will have 72 hours after knowing their draft position to decide if they want to keep the pick or officially give it to San Jose.
If this happens, the Penguins would likely keep the pick, but imagine if the Sharks got the first two picks in the draft.

Hockey in the Desert is fun again. The Coyotes win their second lottery out of ten.

Hey, look, the Blue Jackets win the lottery again. This simulation matches the first one.
While the Sharks only won the 2024 Draft Lottery twice, the percentage is just below projected. The Sharks only have a 25.5% chance of winning the lottery if they finish last in the NHL. 2/10= 20%.
Wouldn't simulation #8 be something, especially if the Penguins opt not to keep the pick?
