San Jose Sharks top prospect Will Smith just completed his freshman season after Boston College fell to Denver University 2-0.

With 71 points, Smith tied Vegas Golden Knights center Jack Eichel and Winnipeg Jets winger Kyle Connor for the most points by a freshman since 1994.

The 2023 No. 4 overall pick led BC in scoring and the NCAA with 25 goals and 46 assists.

Smith now has the option to sign with his NHL club or stay for another year in college. The Sharks hold his signing rights for three seasons. The youngster has time to make his decision, as he can choose to sign over the Summer.

If the Sharks and Smith agree before the NHL season ends, Smith could join the team in Edmonton or Calgary next week for his NHL debut.

Smith finished the season named as an NCAA All-American with the First East Team.

Although the season didn't end with a National Championship, his season will be one for the history books as one of the best freshman seasons in NCAA history. He also won gold with Team USA at the 2024 IIHF World Juniors.
