Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports - Friedman: 'Not A Lot There That People Are Chasing'; Mike Grier Has Work To Do For Sharks Trade Deadline

On his 32 Thoughts podcast, Elliotte Friedman reported that the San Jose Sharks have struggled to make a trade because teams lack interest in what they offer.

"One of the problems that San Jose has, there's not a lot there that people are chasing," Friedman said today.

The Sharks have seven pending UFAs, and Friedman reports that the team is trying to move as many of them as possible.

"They're definitely going to try to move their UFAs if they can. The challenge there has been between whatever prices might be asked or whatever is available, teams just aren't clamoring to get what's there," he said.

He continues to say that there are teams interested in acquiring Anthony Duclair, who is playing the best hockey of the season. He also mentions that teams are calling the Sharks about Mikael Granlund and Mario Ferraro, but their prices are higher, given the terms they have on their contract.

"There's some interest in Mikael Granlund, who has another year remaining. There's some interest in Mario Ferraro, who got a couple more years remaining," Friedman said. "Even if they trade someone like Ferraro or Granlund, they're gonna want more of a price, understandably."

Part of the low interest is because many teams are hesitant to move draft capital or prospects, leaving them with little buying power.

"The one thing I definitely hear is, Granlund is a guy who teams believe in the right situation he can help you," Friedman said. "Ferraro is a guy who, even though he struggled this year, is still very young. He's got a great work ethic, and if you get him in your situation, you can work with him and make him better. There's definitely those feelings, but the prices are higher, and like I said, I think San Jose has had a challenge moving those players."

He suggests Matt Benning would've garnered interest if he hadn't gotten injured.

Whatever the interest level, Mike Grier has work to find trade partners, as it takes two teams to make a deal.
