Happy Sunday, San Jose Sharks fans.

The 2025-26 season is in full swing and unfortunately, the Sharks have had a very slow start to the season. They are 0-3-2 to the start the year, but at times have played well. Sharks fans were able to see Michael Misa in action this past week. However, it seems they are taking a slower approach to the start of his career. It doesn't seem like he will be a regular in the lineup every night, similar to what happened with Leo Carlsson and the Anaheim Ducks last season.

With that, it's a good time to look back at the week that was at the Hockey News' Sharks site.

It's funny how quickly things can change. Not long ago, the state of California was considered the NHL’s Death Valley, the road swing you began to dread as soon as you took a peek at the schedule. For a while, it looked as though the Stanley Cup might not apply for permanent residence there, but it was about to accept a job at In-N-Out and take out earthquake insurance.

Then came the 2014-15 season. Two of the three teams didn’t make the playoffs and the Anaheim Ducks couldn’t close out a crucial series or win a Game 7 on home ice. All of a sudden, Cali didn’t look quite so imposing.

The San Jose Sharks and Minnesota Wild have completed a minor league trade. The Sharks have sent forward Oskar Olausson to the Wild in exchange for defensemen Kyle Masters. Olausson was acquired this past summer by the Sharks in a trade with the Colorado Avalanche that sent the signing rights to Daniil Gushchin to the Avalanche.

Oh, to be a hockey fan in California in 2014. The NHL playoffs opened with the Anaheim Ducks, San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings holding the top three spots in the Pacific Division and sitting second, fifth and 10th in the overall standings. The Kings rallied from a 3-0 series deficit in Round 1 to defeat the Sharks in seven games before taking down the Ducks in another seven-game war. Los Angeles ended up winning its second Stanley Cup in a three-season span.

The San Jose Sharks have announced some roster moves today. First, they claimed Vincent Iorio off waivers from the Washington Capitals. Iorio, 22, is fairly new to the NHL. He has only played in nine games, which came during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons. Since then, he has spent time in the American Hockey League with the Hershey Bears.

It's one thing to see the writing on the wall. It’s another to see your future spelled out in flashing neon lights. And when Juuse Saros signed a mega-money extension with the Nashville Predators in July, followed not long after by the Preds’ signing of veteran second-stringer Scott Wedgewood, upstart keeper Yaroslav Askarov couldn’t ignore what was staring him in the face: a gargantuan sign letting him know that his hope of becoming an NHL No. 1 wasn’t going to happen in Music City.

The San Jose Sharks' 2025-26 rolls on with a matchup against the Eastern Conference Carolina Hurricanes.  The last game against the Anaheim Ducks was a special one, it was the debut of Sam Dickinson. However, tonight is also special. Michael Misa, the Sharks' second overall pick in the 2025 NHL draft will make his NHL debut tonight. This is going to be a game that Sharks fans remember for a long time. Yet another talented young forward will play their first game and engrave their name into to the core of this team.

The wait is finally over. San Jose Sharks 2025 second-overall pick Michael Misa is set to make his NHL debut tonight against the Carolina Hurricanes. Misa had to wait a bit longer than he might have liked, but the moment is finally here. He’s going to play his first NHL game on home ice. Misa was selected in the first round of the 2025 NHL Draft when the Sharks took him with the second pick. He was one of the first players from his draft class to sign his entry-level contract, and now he’s set to join the NHL and fulfill a childhood dream.

In the USHL, teams can sign a player to a tender contract, giving up a first-round pick while guaranteeing the youngster will play a specified percentage of the team’s games the following season. There’s risk involved in committing to a rookie like that, but the Chicago Steel have had good luck with the process with recent tenders such as Adam Fantilli and Jayden Perron. This year, Chicago tendered two players: Mack Celebrini and Michael Hage (for whom they gave up their second-rounder).
