John E. Sokolowski-USA TODAY Sports - Former Sharks Goaltender Earns NHL Contract Despite Hectic Journey

Former San Jose Sharks goaltender Aaron Dell was placed on waivers today because the Los Angeles Kings are signing him to a two-way NHL contract.

Dell informed THN that he was signed to an AHL contract with the Ontario Reign to provide the Kings goaltending depth after Phoenix Copley was ruled out for the rest of the season.

Dell will now sign a two-way contract allowing the Kings to recall him in case their goaltenders, David Rittich and Cam Talbot, must miss time for any reason.

Dell's journey to this point in the season has been hectic. He was signed to a PTO by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the offseason but was released. He resided in the San Jose area, where he worked on the ice with Joe Thornton and Logan Couture.

Then Thronton took him to the Spengler Cup with Team Canada.

Then he signed a PTO with the Carolina Hurricanes before ultimately coming back across the country to the Ontario Reign.

Dell has played five games in the AHL this season and has had two wins, one being a shutout.

Dell was technically waived this morning, which was the first step toward him being able to sign his new two-way deal.

Dell has played 130 games in the NHL, 111 with the Sharks. The 34-year-old had a .909 career save % with the Sharks over five years.
