The Lightning will be looking to stop Auston Matthews from making history.

The Tampa Bay Lightning will play their final game of the 2023-24 regular season on Wednesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs. This is a game that all Lightning fans should watch, as Nikita Kucherov needs just one assist to hit his 100th of the season. He would be the first winger in NHL history to reach that feat if he is successful.

However, Kucherov is not the only player looking to make history in this matchup. Toronto Maple Leafs superstar Auston Matthews needs to score just once against the Bolts to reach his 70th goal of the season.

    Auston Matthews

If Matthews scores against the Lightning, he will be only the ninth player in NHL history to score at least 70 goals in a single season. The NHL has not had a 70-goal scorer since the 1992-93 season, when Alexander Mogilny and Teemu Selanne both scored 76.

The Lightning's goal in this matchup will be to stop Matthews from hitting the 70-goal mark. It will be interesting to see if they can successfully do that from here.
