These kinds of goals always sting the most.
The Tampa Bay Lightning entered Tuesday's Game 2 matchup against the Florida Panthers down 1-0 in the series, which made this contest especially important for the Lightning.
Unfortunately for the Bolts, they fell to the Panthers by a 3-2 final score in overtime. While the Lightning played a solid game, the Panthers still found a way to defeat them, and, unfortunately for Tampa, a former one of their players sank them.
Just three minutes into overtime, Panthers star Carter Verhaeghe scored the game-winner, much to the dismay of Lightning fans. After receiving a perfect pass in front from Anton Lundell, Verhaeghe roofed it past Lightning netminder Andrei Vasilevskiy. Now, the Lightning are heading back to Tampa down 2-0 in the series.
Verhaeghe, 28, has emerged as a star forward for the Panthers since signing with the club during the 2020 NHL Offseason. He also always elevates his play during the playoffs, as the Lightning experienced last night.

Verhaeghe appeared in 52 games for the Lightning during the 2019-20 season, posting nine goals, 13 points, and a minus-9 rating.
