Nikita Kucherov has hit the 100-assist mark.

Nikita Kucherov has hit the 100-assist mark.

All eyes were on Nikita Kucherov during the Tampa Bay Lightning's final regular-season game of the year against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday. The superstar winger entered the contest with 99 assists on the season and needed to secure just one to make NHL history.

Without much surprise, Kucherov was successful with his goal and hit his 100th assist of the season. Kucherov's 100th assist of the season was a wonderful one, too. No. 86 faked a slapshot and made a perfect feed to Brayden Point. Point, of course, took advantage of it, and Kucherov is in the record books because of it.

Kucherov is just the fifth player in NHL history to record at least 100 assists in a season, joining Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Bobby Orr, and Connor McDavid. That is some elite company and only shows just how special of a talent Kucherov is.

Kucherov has ended his season with 44 goals, 100 assists, and 144 points. It was a remarkable regular season for him, and hitting the 100-assist mark only builds his case to win the Hart Memorial Trophy even further.
