This former Lightning prospect has landed a big new contract extension with his current team.

Former Tampa Bay Lightning top prospect Brett Howden has signed a five-year, $12.5 million contract extension with the Vegas Golden Knights. Starting next season, he will carry a $2.5 million cap hit.
Seeing the Golden Knights extend Howden is not particularly surprising. He has been off to a strong start this season with Vegas, posting eight goals and an assist in his first 20 games. However, besides providing solid secondary scoring, he also has become a key penalty killer on their roster.
Howden, 26, was once a top prospect in the Lightning's system. The Bolts selected him with the 27th overall pick of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. However, he never played in an NHL regular-season game for the Lightning. This is because he was traded to the New York Rangers during the 2017-18 season as part of the deal that brought Ryan McDonagh and J.T. Miller to Tampa Bay.

In 371 NHL games split between the New York Rangers and Golden Knights, Howden has 47 goals, 110 points, and 474 hits.
