This former Lightning defenseman is expected to miss more time than expected.
This past weekend, former Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Matt Dumba suffered a lower-body injury that was deemed day-to-day. However, things are now more serious than previously expected, as Dallas Stars head coach Pete DeBoer shared that Dumba is now going to be out week-to-week. DeBoer also announced that Dumba will not need surgery.
This is certainly tough news for the Stars, as Dumba is a key part of their blue line. This is especially so, given that they already have depth issues on the right side of their defense. Now, having Dumba out of the lineup will only make this more of a case.
Dumba joined the Stars on a two-year, $7.5 million contract during this past off-season. This was after he finished the 2023-24 season as a member of the Lightning. In 18 regular-season games with Tampa Bay, he had two assists, 33 penalty minutes, and 52 hits. He also had zero points in five post-season games with the Lightning.
