The Tampa Bay Lightning return to the ice tonight (Feb. 27) to go up against the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center. This should be a good matchup between two clubs who are very close in the NHL standings.
However, Lightning fans should also watch this matchup because the rebuilding Flyers have some trade candidates who would be excellent pickups for the Lightning at the deadline – Sean Walker and Nick Seeler.
Sean WalkerWalker, 29, has been connected to the Lightning for a decent chunk of time now. It is understandable, as he is one of the top defensemen available, and the Lightning need help on their right side. If acquired, he would be an immediate upgrade to their top four. Along with that, he would work well on their penalty kill because of his reliable defensive play.
Seeler, 30, is another defenseman whom the Lightning should be targeting. The Minnesota native has emerged as a dependable shutdown defenseman and has shown that he can handle top-four minutes. With that, he is an outstanding penalty-killer who plays a heavy game. It also does not hurt that he has an easily affordable $775,000 cap hit.
Nick SeelerAdding one or even both of these defensemen would be massive for a Lightning team that needs more defensive depth. While Walker is the bigger name out of the two, Seeler would be more than just a consolation prize if acquired.
In 59 games this season, Seeler has one goal, 10 points, 105 hits, 172 blocks, and a plus-14 rating. As for Walker, he has five goals, 21 points, and a plus-8 rating in 59 contests.
