One hockey mind believes that the Lightning will be the eventual landing spot for this Flames defenseman.
The 2024 NHL Trade Deadline is almost here, and trade chatter around the hockey world is significantly picking up because of it. When it comes to the Tampa Bay Lightning, they have been linked to an abundance of defensemen, but there is not one bigger than Calgary Flames star Noah Hanifin.
Hanifin makes perfect sense for the Lightning. Fellow star defenseman Mikhail Sergachev is out indefinitely, and Hanifin would be the ideal replacement for him in their lineup.
Due to the Lightning's profound need to add a high-impact defenseman, The Athletic's Shayna Goldman predicted that the Lightning will be the landing spot for Hanifin by the deadline.
Goldman proposed that the Lightning could part ways with their 2026 first-round pick and other 2025 draft picks to land Hanifin. That certainly would be a hefty price to pay, but Goldman also noted that "that’s the price for Tampa Bay to pay to extend its window of contention." Thus, it is an avenue worth going down.
Hanifin would be a big-time addition for a Lightning club looking to win their third Stanley Cup in five seasons and fourth in franchise history. We will need to wait and see if Goldman's prediction comes to fruition from here.
