It was a challenging Game 2 for the Abbotsford Canucks as they were shut out 4-0 by the Ontario Reign. Zach Sawchenko made 22 saves as Abbotsford failed to hit the scoresheet for the first time since Jan. 12. With the loss, the Canucks will head back to Abbotsford down 2-0 and will look to keep their season alive on Wednesday.
While the Canucks had chances, they could not find a way to beat Reign goaltender Erik Portillo. Abbotsford outshot Ontario 29-26 but failed to capitalize on any of their three power plays. The game also got ugly late, as eight players received roughing calls in the last minute of the game.
Heading into Game 3, the Canucks need to find a way to break through this Reign defence. Ontario has held Abbotsford to one goal in two games, showing just how strong their defensive structure has been this postseason. The Canucks need their top players to step up; otherwise, Wednesday could be their final game of the season.
