For the final time this regular season, the Vancouver Canucks (48-22-9) take on the Edmonton Oilers (48-24-6) in a battle of the top two teams in the Pacific Division. With a victory, the Canucks will sweep the season series for the first time since 2014-15, when Vancouver went 5-0 against their Alberta rivals. A regulation win would also push the Canucks to 107 points meaning Vancouver would need just one point in their final two games or the Oilers to drop a point in their final three games to secure the Pacific Division crown.
Despite being the road team, the Canucks are more rested, as Edmonton lost to the Arizona Coyotes in overtime last night. Vancouver will also catch a little bit of a break as Connor McDavid remains sidelined with an injury. the Canucks can have a quick start to the game, they should be able to wear down Edmonton and leave Rogers Place with yet another victory.
Player to Watch
Filip Hronek
Averaging over 23 minutes a night in his last five games, Filip Hronek continues to show how valuable he is to this Canucks lineup. He recently surpassed the 100-hit mark on the season and has recorded at least two blocks in three of his last four games. Expect Hronek to once again top 20 minutes as he should see plenty of ice at even strength and on special teams.
Mattias Ekholm
Mattias Ekholm is showing why the Oilers spent significant trade capital to acquire him last season. Through 75 games, he has tied his career high of 44 points and has surpassed the 100-hit mark for the first time in his 13-year career. A leader on the blueline, tonight could be a milestone night for Ekholm as he is just one assist off 250 for his career.
