While it wasn't their best effort, the Vancouver Canucks (46-20-8) defeated the Anaheim Ducks (24-47-4) 3-2 on Easter Sunday. Brock Boeser opened the scoring while Dakota Joshua potted two in the victory. With the win, the Canucks hit the 100-point mark for the first time since 2014-15 while recording 46+ wins for the seventh time in franchise history.
Special teams were the story of the game, as Vancouver scored twice on the power play for the first time since early February. The Canucks were also strong on the penalty kill, as Vancouver killed all four Ducks power play, limiting Anaheim to only three shots with the man advantage. The Canucks also received strong play from Artūrs Šilovs, who made 20 saves in his season debut. In the end, Vancouver did their job and, as a result, swept this year's season series with the Ducks.
Quotes
J.T. Miller on the Canucks penalty kill late in the game:
"That's one of those moments where the pressure is going to be high, and you know, that was a heck of a job by the PK guys. That was a big part of the game, and obviously, they kind of helped propel us into the last four or five minutes of the game."
Dakota Joshua on his highlight reel goal:
"It's confidence. This year has been really big for my confidence. So to get to this point and at least try it, it does speak to the confidence level right now, and just try to keep building off of it."
Rick Tocchet on Vancouver's performance:
"Just execution. We got a little bit more pushed from some guys. I think a lot of turnovers, and we can't turn pucks over. I don't care who you are; it's a respect factor. We were warning them, they're gonna work hard. So, when you don't when you throw a lot of turnovers, you don't have respect for your opponent. You got to be careful of that."
Rick Tocchet on the Canucks play in front of Šilovs:
"I think our structures always held us in. The individual stuff in front, sometimes is where we have to get better. Obviously, that second goal we didn't like. That was something that should never happen, but for the most part, I thought that we defended half-decent in front of Šilovs. He made some good saves for us."
