A look at some of the analytics from the Canucks 6-3 loss to the Golden Knights.

Welcome to this edition of "The Stats Behind The Game." This recurring deep dive breaks down the analytics behind each Vancouver Canucks game as recorded by Natural Stat Trick. In this article, we look back on the Canucks most recent 6-3 defeat to the Vegas Golden Knights.

The analytics were not kind to Vancouver in their loss to the Golden Knights. In 47:16 at even strength, the Canucks lost the scoring chances battle 23-22 and only recorded five high-danger chances compared to Vegas' eight. Despite having a slight advantage in shots at even strength, Vancouver could not capitalize on their opportunities, also losing the even strength goal battle 4-2.

The heatmap for this game is an excellent Illustration of what went wrong for the Canucks. Four of Vegas' sixth goals were scored right in front of the net, while Vancouver only scored once from that area. Whether it was two-on-ones or capitalizing off missed assignments, the Golden Knights were able to get pucks to these danger areas, while the Canucks were not. Add in a shaky game overall from Casey DeSmith, and it is clear how Vegas was able to put on such a dominating performance.

From an analytics perspective, Pius Suter had a strong game for Vancouver. In the 10:30, Suter was on the ice at even strength, the Canucks had a 4-0 high-danger chances advantage while posting a team-high xGF% of 81.83. Suter also finished the game with an individual high-danger chance created and went six for nine in the faceoff dot. Ultimately, he made the most of his minutes and was one of the few positives on the night.
