The Vancouver Canucks fell 3-2 to the Edmonton Oilers in Game 7.

Despite a late push, the Vancouver Canucks 2023-24 season came to a close thanks to a 3-2 Game 7 loss to the Edmonton Oilers. Conor Garland and Filip Hronek found the back of the net for Vancouver, while Artūrs Šilovs made 26 saves in the loss. With the defeat, the Canucks finish the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs with a record of 7-6, scoring 33 goals while allowing 36.
As has been the story for most of the playoffs, Vancouver struggled out of the gate and only started pressing midway through the game. The Canucks had two shots through the first 20 minutes and once again failed to hit the 20-shot mark, finishing the night with 17. Ultimately, Vancouver was lucky to have the opportunity to come back in this game as if not for some amazing saves from Šilovs; this could have easily turned into a blowout.
With the season now complete, the focus turns to the offseason, where the Canucks have some big decisions to make. Nine players on the main roster, including Elias Lindholm, Nikita Zadorov and Dakota Joshua, are unrestricted free agents, while the organization needs to decide what to do with Filip Hronek, who is a restricted free agent. It is sure to be an interesting few months as Vancouver attempts to build a stronger team heading into the 2024-25 season.
Quotes
J.T. Miller on the lessons he learned from this year's playoff run:
"You gotta go through it. I still mean that, and I think so many of our core players learned a lot of what it takes, the emotion of the building and how it can swing so quickly. I'm sure, even right now, they're hungry to get back here. I think we have a good thing going here, and I just believe that we're going to be a good hockey team, and we're gonna have another opportunity."
Quinn Hughes on the fan's support throughout the playoff run:
"It's very special. A special place to play in. That's part due to the city and the passion that people have here but also to this group and what we've accomplished the entire year. Special atmosphere here in the playoffs and my first go around in five years here so was very special for myself."
Rick Tocchet on the Oilers ability to control the game early:
"Well, it's a great team. I mean, just early, they executed a little better than us, and we just didn't have the puck enough. A lot of missed shots. I thought our execution was a little off, but the second half of this game, these guys played really hard."
Rick Tocchet on the fan's support throughout the game:
"Yeah, they're great. They're unreal. Cheering guys names. Like I said, I didn't know much about the fans but they were incredible. They were great."
