The Vancouver Canucks were dealt a devastating blow yesterday when they found out Brock Boeser would be out for game seven and beyond with a blood clotting issue.
According to reports, his issue is not considered life-threatening, which is the most important detail. The bad news is that Boeser will likely be out longer than just tonight's game seven against the Edmonton Oilers.
As per Frank Seravalli, Boeser's clotting issue is in his leg, and he has since been put on medication. Boeser is the Canucks leading goalscorer in both the regular season and the playoffs. He scored seven goals in 12 playoff games this season.
Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet's answer to Boeser's injury backs up Seravalli's report that the forward is unavailable for the rest of the playoffs.
Boeser has had two shining moments during the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. He scored a hat trick in game four of the first round against the Nashville Predators and twice in game three against the Oilers. The latter was almost a natural hat trick, but the first goal was later credited to Elias Lindholm.
Losing Boeser will mean someone has to step into his spot on the line with J.T. Miller and Pius Suter. That line has been tasked to defend Connor McDavid throughout the series. While McDavid has been mostly Miller's assignment, other linemates are still on the ice needed to support him.
Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch discussed how Boeser's missing impact could affect his team's mentality.
Dakota Joshua told media members that losing Boeser was a tough blow, but it only added to the team's motivation to win tonight's game seven.
The Canucks morning skate was optional and was not attended very heavily, so whoever is filling in for Boeser won't be known until line rushes during warmups.
Boeser's health comes first over everything else. Luckily, he will be okay, and based on what players, coaches, and reporters are saying, Boeser will play hockey again, just not this postseason.
