The Vancouver Canucks announced the signing of goaltender Jiri Patera for two years.
Patera, 25, made his NHL debut last season with the Vegas Golden Knights and has only appeared in eight NHL games. His contract is a two-way deal, which likely means the Canucks expect him to be in the AHL.
In six NHL games last season, Patera had a record of 1-3-1, with a .893 save % and a 3.98 GAA.
The Canucks qualified Arturs Silovs and have lost Casey DeSmith to free agency, so their depth at goaltender needed to be filled. Patera brings precisely that and could be seen as the team's third-string goalie behind Silovs and Thatcher Demko.
