The Vancouver Canucks have signed defenceman Jett Woo to a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000. The 23-year-old right-shot defender played 62 games for the Abbotsford Canucks last season, recording a career-high 31 points. This year, Woo also earned his first call-up to the NHL but did not suit up for a game.
Initially drafted 37th overall by the Canucks in 2018, Woo is one of the longest-serving players in the organization. He has played 200 games at the AHL level, scoring 19 goals and recording 65 points during that time. Woo has become a crucial piece of Abbotsford's blue line over the past few seasons, with his development taking a big step in 2023-24.
Signing Woo provides Vancouver with depth on the blue line. The former WHL star will have every opportunity to earn a spot on the NHL roster out of camp but will most likely be used as a call-up when injuries hit. Ultimately, this is a good deal for both sides and keeps a promising player who could play NHL games at some point this season in the organization.
