The Vancouver Canucks have selected Basile Sansonnens from Gottéron U20 of the U20-Elit 221st overall in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. Listed at 6'3", 196 pounds, Sansonnens is a left-shot defenceman who recorded three points in 40 games in the U20-Elit league over in Switzerland. Sansonnens also played games in the NL this season and represented Switzerland at this year's U18s.
Sansonnens is one of the youngest players in this year's draft. He is a good penalty killer and brings physicality whenever on the ice. Projected to play more games at the NL level next season, Sansonnens should also be on Switzerland's 2025 World Juniors team.
