Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin has confirmed that Nikita Zadorov will head to free agency.

In a press conference on Friday, Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin confirmed that Nikita Zadorov will be headed to free agency. Vancouver acquired the 6'6", left-shot defenceman in November and became a crucial part of their blue line in the postseason. Zadorov recently finished a two-year contract that carried an AAV of $3.75 and is projected to receive a long-term contract from another organization on July 1.

Zadorov became a fan favourite thanks to his massive hits and hilarious one-liners. In 54 regular season games with the Canucks, Zadorov recorded 14 points and 124 hits while averaging 17:04 of ice time. As mentioned, he was a dominant player during the postseason, recording four goals and eight points in 13 games while seeing his ice time bumped up to over 20 minutes a night.

With Zadorov no longer coming back, Allvin and his team will have around $15 million in cap space to try and improve the team. Some of the names Vancouver is rumoured to be interested in include Jake Guentzel, Chris Tanev and Brenden Dillon. Free agency begins on July 1, 2024, at noon PST.
