Mark Friedman played 23 games for the Vancouver Canucks during the 2023-24 season
GM Patrik Allvin announced that the Vancouver Canucks have re-signed right-shot defenceman Mark Friedman to a one-year contract worth $775,000. The Canucks acquired Friedman, along with Ty Glover from the Pittsburgh Penguins, for Jack Rathbone and Karel Plasek back in October. Friedman played 23 games with Vancouver this season, recording one assist, 33 hits and 35 blocks while averaging 12:14 of ice time.
In a statement, Allvin wrote, "Mark’s addition to our group last year gave us some much needed depth and he is someone we can count on if plugged into our lineup. He is a team first player and is always ready to step in if called upon. We expect him to come into camp and compete hard for a regular spot this season."
During year-end media availability, Friedman discussed wanting to come back to Vancouver next season. The now 28-year-old said, "I'm willing to do whatever it takes." which according to Friedman, includes playing forward if needed. Friedman is expected to play a depth role for the Canucks during the 2024-25 season.
