Canucks Prospect Vilmer Alriksson Signs Amateur Try-Out With Abbotsford
On Sunday, the Abbotsford Canucks announced that they had signed Vancouver Canucks prospect Vilmer Alriksson to an amateur try-out. Alriksson recently wrapped up his rookie OHL season with the Gulph Storm, where he had 33 points in 67 games. Initially drafted 107th overall by Vancouver in 2023, Alriksson is now eligible to practice and play with Abbotsford for the rest of the AHL season.
Alriksson is a giant, coming in at 6'6", 230 pounds. The 19-year-old forward has yet to sign his entry-level contract with the Canucks, but could earn one by the end of the season, depending on how he acclimates himself in Abbotsford over the next few weeks. Even if he does sign an entry-level contract with Vancouver, the plan is for him to return to the OHL for the 2024-25 season.
With Alriksson signing in Abbotsford, the Canucks now have three prospects from the 2023 NHL Draft assigned to the AHL. Sawyer Mynio joined after his WHL season came to a close. At the same time, Ty Mueller started his pro career after the University of Nebraska-Omaha was knocked out of the NCAA tournament. Neither Mynio nor Mueller has made their AHL debuts yet but could before the regular season comes to a close on Apr. 20.
