Young, Kudryavtsev and Bloom's CHL teams all swept their first-round series.
Three Vancouver Canucks prospects are headed to the second round of the 2024 CHL playoffs after sweeping their first-round matchups. The only prospect left not advancing is Vilmer Alriksson, whose season came to a close after his Guelph Storm fell to Kirill Kudryavtsev's Soo Greyhounds in the first round. Here is a look at how the three remaining prospects performed in their first-round series.
Josh Bloom- Saginaw Spirit
Josh Bloom had a series to remember, recording three goals and seven points in the Saginaw Spirit's first-round sweep of the Owen Sound Attack. Recording at least a point in every game, Bloom is also one of nine players to have scored a shorthanded goal so far in the OHL playoffs. While his spot in the Memorial Cup is already secured, he and his teammates are focused on capturing the OHL Championship and entering the tournament with some momentum.
Kirill Kudryavtsev- Soo Greyhounds
Kirill Kudryavtsev kicked off his 2024 OHL playoffs in style. The Canucks seventh-rounder from 2022 had a goal and four assists and is currently tied for the points lead in the OHL amongst defencemen. Kudryavtsev also posted a plus/minus of +5, which is tied for second amongst OHL defenceman. Projected to faceoff against Bloom and the Spirit in the second round, Kudryavtsev may have to eliminate another fellow Vancouver prospect if he wants a chance at this year's Memorial Cup.
Ty Young- Prince George Cougars
Over in the WHL, Ty Young stepped up in Game 4, helping the Prince George Cougars sweep the Spokane Chiefs. Young only played in one game, making 30 saves in a 3-2 victory. Now the backup in Prince George, we will have to wait and see if he gets another opportunity during the Cougars playoff run.
